Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Genre : YA

Plot -
As the title of the book is 'Eleanor and Park', Eleanor and Park are the protagonists of the story. Eleanor is a chubby, red-haired girl with weird clothes and traumatic family background. On the first day of the school bus, she sits next to a black-haired boy, Park. Park is a 16-year-old, half Korean, introverted boy. On the bus full of bullies, Park is the only quiet boy. He puts on headphones thinking he is invisible to everyone, but never to Eleanor. Though they don't talk with each other, they form a bond through mixtapes and comics. They fall in love over time and as every love story, they also face some problems.
Review -
This book has a good story and it flows at the same pace throughout. It doesn't have twists. It is written in a simple language and is easy to understand.
But, it is filled with problems. This book is extremely disrespectful to the Asian people. Every time writer talks about Park, his looks are highlighted rather than his personality. He is always compared with his white looking brother, Josh. Park is seen less than Josh, just because he looks Korean. Eleanor's character is also explained with the stereotypes. Her red hair and weight are everything the writer had to say about her.
This book is filled with stereotypes which can be irritating and toxic. It is a racist book with judgements on Korean people. There are many reasons, why you shouldn't read it. It's not worth your time.
