Isn't it exciting to watch fishes raining from the sky? Or being able to communicate with cats? Yes, it sounds bizarre, but not in a Murakami's novel. Kafka on the shore has an unconventional and mystical plot, which doesn't let you put the book down. This book has intriguing writing and is an absolute page turner.
The book has two different stories which go on parallelly. The first story is of a 15 year old boy, named Kafka Tamura, who runs away to escape from the Oedipus prophecy his father stated. He goes to the unknown place and works in the library. On his journey, Kafka meets different people who add more meaning to the story.
The second story is about an old man, Nakata. He has gone through an accident as a child in which he lost his intellect but became able to talk with cats. Though Nakata is not so bright, he is a kind and pure hearted person.
After a point, these two stories intertwine and bind to be the one. Though sometimes the story is unorthodox, it takes us through the different metaphysical concepts. This surrealistic book leaves us with lots of questions and unexplained theories.
